Chancellor Search Committee Sets Aggressive Timeline

The search committee for a new chancellor set an aggressive schedule for finding the next leader for the UT Health Science Center at its August 8 meeting on campus. Its goal is mid-January 2008 for presenting final candidates to President Petersen.

A significant amount of work must be accomplished in the interim, but the committee was prepared for the task under the leadership of Search Committee Chair, Johnnie Amonette, a former vice chair of the UT Board of Trustees. Gary Daugherty, senior vice president of Parker Executive Search, announced that candidate development is underway, and advertising will begin immediately in all the major academic and health care publications.

Composed of community leaders, including health care leaders; representatives from each of the university’s six colleges; a representative from UTHSC nonexempt staff; a representative of the faculty senate; a member of the student body, representatives from the UT Board of Trustees; alumni and statewide representatives of the College of Medicine, the search committee deliberated and agreed upon a position description.

Plans are to invite candidates to Memphis for campus-wide interviews in early January.
