Goals and Learning Objectives
Goal #1: To enhance the student’s knowledge of health systems organization and functions.
Objective 1-1: Students will be able to identify and describe the basic organizational components of the U.S. healthcare system.
Objective 1-2: Students will be able to identify and compare the basic elements of the financing of the U.S. health care system.
Objective 1-3: Students will be able to analyze the major problems currently facing the U.S. health care delivery and financing systems.
Goal #2: To enhance the student’s understanding of health-related public policy and oversight at the state level.
Objective 2-1: Students will be able to identify the basic features of public policy making.
Objective 2-2: Students will be able to assess and distinguish between the role of various governmental and private organizations in the development and implementation of health-related public policy.
Objective 2-3: Students will be able to distinguish between policy and politics in governmental decision making.
Objective 2-4: Students will be able to analyze the development and the evolution of major health policy trends in the U.S.
Goal #3: To enhance the student’s understanding of the management of complex U.S. health care systems.
Objective 3-1: Students will be able to describe and analyze the internal management and governance structure of health care system.
Objective 3-2: Students will be able to identify and apply methods for measuring health system performance and quality of care.
Objective 3-3: Students will be able to explain the importance of interacting with administrative and clinical systems in a health care system.
Objective 3-4: Students will be able to assess how health system design, financing and regulation impact the operations of a health care system.
Goal #4: To enhance the student’s leadership skills and ability to participate in health system function and reform.
Objective 4-1: Students will be able to describe the nature and role of leadership in general and in the health care system in particular.
Objective 4-2: Students will be able to describe and assess the role of physicians in the operation of the U.S. health care system.
