Partners in Policymaking™
The Partners in Policymaking Leadership Institute is a program of the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities. The Institute provides adults with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities with the latest information on disability policy issues and helps them become advocates for themselves and for others in their communities.
The goal is to create a partnership between people with disabilities and people who make the policies that affect their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
Participants complete an intensive course over seven months, spending one weekend each month in the course. A course is held each year. There are 30 participants from all parts of Tennessee. Partners are selected to provide representatives from all areas of the state, ethnic minorities, and people with different disabilities.

Tennessee Youth Leadership Forum
The Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities has a similar program to teach young people with disabilities to become advocates for themselves and others in their communities. Students in the 10th through 12th grades attend a four-day conference in June on a college campus. Topics include leadership, history of the disability experience, assistive technology, living on one's own, reaching career goals, college resources, and working with legislators.
