Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy
Therapy programs are provided by physical therapy, occupational
therapy, and speech language pathology. All treatment programs involve parent
counseling and training regarding the child's condition as needed. Occupational
TherapyOccupational Therapy provides evaluation and treatment to improve
clients' fine motor skills and activities of daily living including eating, dressing,
hygiene, toileting, and play activities. Physical TherapyPhysical
therapy services at the BCDD are provided by a licensed, specialized physical
therapist that is specifically trained and experienced in treating children with
developmental disabilities. Physical therapists are able to detect delays in
mobility and movement, as well as to identify problems causing these delays. Children
coming to physical therapy receive a play-based assessment that includes looking
at range of motion, muscle strength, coordination, balance, motor planning, and
sensory organization/integration. Assessments are made using standardized
tools. Recommendations for care are given based on best practice patterns as defined
by the American Physical Therapy Association's Guide to Physical Therapy Practice
and current research in the field Speech and Language TherapyTherapy
includes facilitation and stimulation of language development and remediation
of articulation, language, voice, and fluency disorders. Contact For
