Child and Adolescent PsychiatryThe
Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of the Department of Psychiatry of
the University of Tennessee Health Science Center was organized in 1972 to provide
treatment for children and adolescents with psychiatric problems and their families.
The program serves as the Child Psychiatry demonstration program for the BCDD. The
Division’s staff includes Board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists,
licensed clinical psychologists, and licensed social workers. The Division also
offers comprehensive educational training programs to psychiatric residents, medical
students, pediatric residents, psychology interns, child and adolescent psychiatry
fellows and social work interns. The Division is dedicated to excellent
clinical treatment for patients and their families, to the education of medical
and non-medical trainees, and to the research into child, adolescent, and family
psychopathology. Services include - Psychiatric evaluation,
a service that provides extensive psychiatric and psychological evaluations for
diagnosis and treatment recommendations of children, adolescents and their families.
- Child
guidance, a clinic for the treatment of the child's entire family. Psychiatric
services are delivered as a group practice system and are offered at three locations:
in the Medical Center area, in East Memphis at the Ridgelake Offices, and in Collierville.
- Wellness
and outreach—providing services including prevention services offered to
schools and communities, contracts with EAP programs, a speakers' bureau, and
other services.
- Crisis evaluation and triage, a 24-hour, seven-day-per-week
service for children, adolescents, and their families to treat a crisis situation
and rapidly make the transition to a less restrictive form of treatment.
