Child Care Program About
the ProgramThe University of Tennessee Health Science Center Child Care
Program provides care for babies and children from six weeks to five years of
age. Staffed with experienced trained lead teachers and assistant teachers, the
child care curriculum is designed to provide a warm, nurturing environment that
will promote cognitive, physical, and emotional growth. The program is accredited
by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The program is
licensed by the state as a three star center, the highest rating in the star system. Child
Care Program as a Learning Laboratory Open weekdays from 7:00 a.m. until
6:00 p.m., the Child Care program is a learning laboratory for BCDD trainees,
UT students, and students from area colleges and universities. Training is also
provided for administrators and teachers from regional day care centers. Specific
goals and objectives are developed to meet the needs of trainees who represent
the specialty areas of early childhood education, early intervention, psychology,
nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology. Parents
are actively involved in the program, and daily charts of each child’s activities
are kept for the parents. A monthly newsletter is published to keep parents abreast
of program activities. An observation booth is attached to each childcare
area to facilitate parents’ and students’ observation. Training sessions
are scheduled year-round to meet the needs of undergraduate and graduate level
trainees. ContactFor further information contact the Child Care
