Market Information
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, which provides a summary
of information about U.S. professions, occupational therapy jobs are expected
to increase faster than average among all occupations over the next several
years. In fact, occupational therapy employment is expected to increase
21-35% from 2004 to 2008. Several trends, such as the baby-boom generation’s
movement into middle age, growth in the number of individuals with disabilities,
expansion of the school-age population, and extended services for disabled
adults are all expected to contribute to a rise in the demand for occupational
therapists. Average starting salaries for occupational therapists is 45-50K.
Salaries may vary widely, depending on experience, practice setting and
geographic location. To access the Occupational Outlook Handbook, go
to www.stats.bls.gov or type the keywords occupational outlook handbook
into the search boxes on your favorite search engine.
