Master of Dental Hygiene (MDH) Program
This non-traditional program of post-professional study allows dental hygienists the opportunity to obtain a Master of Dental Hygiene (MDH) degree while continuing to practice full-time. The major focus of the program is to prepare dental hygienists as educators and leaders in the dental hygiene profession.
Program Goals:
- Prepare educators for faculty positions in entry level dental hygiene programs.
- Assist in alleviating the national shortage of dental hygiene faculty.
- Provide graduates with the skills necessary to be successful in leadership positions in education, professional organizations, community health organizations and/or the corporate arena.
- Add to the body on knowledge of dental hygiene through student, graduate, and faculty generated scholarly activity.
The MDH program began in September 2006 and accepted 15 students from across the nation in its first class. Today 28 students are enrolled. We celebrated our first graduation in December 2007 when three members of our first class were graduated by the University. As we had hoped, all three graduates are working full time in dental hygiene education at the following institutions: LSU, UTHSC, and Perimeter Park Community College in Georgia.
