ASSOCIATE DEAN – COLLEGE OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES

 

The College of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (Memphis) is accepting applications for an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research. The new position offers an excellent opportunity for academic career advancement and enhancement. The Associate Dean will be the chief academic officer in the college and will advise the Dean on matters related to program curricula, external academic reviews, and admission standards, and will also prepare proposals for new academic programs and recommend the allocation of college resources. The Associate Dean will coordinate and monitor issues related to faculty development and promotion and tenure decisions. The Associate Dean will represent the Dean and College on internal university committees and to external constituencies.

The Associate Dean will develop a supportive environment for a community of funded scholars which includes mentoring and enhancing faculty professional development and research expertise, fostering intra-and extra-college collaborative research initiatives with a commitment to developing minority-related research including partnerships with culturally diverse and underserved communities and healthcare agencies in the region. The Associate Dean will provide leadership in implementing the College’s strategic plan for research and will work with the Faculty Research Committee which works to enhance the ability of the faculty to submit successful extramural grant applications. The College is an active participant in the development of the UT Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and the Associate Dean will represent the College in CTSI activities. The Associate Dean in concert with the Assistant Dean for Administration will develop and maintain a database for institutional research and strategic planning.

Qualifications: The successful applicant must demonstrate a record of excellence in education and leadership appropriate for the position, appropriate scholarly activity, including a history of grant funded research and extramural funding to support scholarly endeavors, a record of scholarly publications; relevant professional teaching experience and an earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution. The candidate should demonstrate successes in effectively developing/mentoring junior faculty and/or graduate students.  The candidate should be eligible for the appointment as an Associate/Full Professor within one of the departments in the College of Allied Health Sciences. This is a tenure track position. The applicant should hold current certification and/or licensure as appropriate in a healthcare profession, preferably in allied health. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required to work well with diverse groups such as faculty, students, peers in and outside the college and community stakeholders.
  
Founded in 1972, the College of Allied Health Sciences has more than 8000 alumni. The College offers twelve degree programs ranging from baccalaureate to doctoral degrees. There are 48 faculty members in the college and over three-hundred (300) students in Cytotechnology, Dental Hygiene, Health Informatics and Information Management, Medical Technology, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. The programs are taught in traditional classroom settings, in hybrid formats combining classroom and distance education technology, and two graduate programs are totally on-line.  Future plans will continue the expansion of programs to other cities in the State of Tennessee.
