The Program is designed for certified medical technologists and cytotechnologists who are interested in pursuing a Master's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences with specialization in a management track, and for medical technologists interested in specializing in a laboratory utilization track. All students enroll in a common core of research, education, laboratory issues courses.

The Graduate Program is designed with the part-time student in mind with most courses offered on an evening or weekend basis. For example, a typical course meets on campus for one weekend (Friday through Sunday). Classroom time is limited to this single two or three day session, so each course requires significant pre-course and post-course study. Pre-course assignments typically include extensive reading in books and journals and taking a pre-test. Post-course assignments might include a post-test and a paper. We also anticipate converting a number of these courses to internet-based courses in the future. Course content and requirements are consistent with expectations of a university graduate degree program. The amount of independent study is greater and the classroom time is shorter than traditional collegiate courses.

Through a Joint Reciprocal Agreement (JRA) with the University of Memphis, some courses will be offered at the University of Memphis with University of Tennessee credit received upon completion of the course.

Students select their own rate of progress through the Program, although all degree requirements must be completed within five years of the date of initial enrollment. Full-time study is also available with anticipated 2 year degree completion. A Thesis and a Practicum must be completed prior to graduation. The minimum credit hour requirement for the M.S. degree is 36 semester hours.
