Admission RequirementsPreparation for a career in cytotechnology is accomplished by successfully completing an accredited program. Students are admitted to the cytotechnology program after they have completed three years of specified academic work at an accredited college or university. The professional program at UTHSC is two years in length and leads to the Master of Cytopathology Practice degree (MCP). Students should check here to make sure they are taking the prerequisite courses required for admission to the UTHSC program.
*These courses should be at the 3000 or 4000 level. Recommended courses include histology, cell biology, genetics, anatomy, immunology, and microbiology. The program in cytotechnology is designed as a “3 + 2” program that leads to a Master of Cytopathology Practice degree.. Classes begin each September and continue for two years on the campus of the UT Health Science Center at Memphis. The GRE is required for applicants with grade point average less than 3.0. Applicants must meet the minimal technical standards or essential skills
necessary for the professional practice of cytotechnology. The application deadline is January 30th. Would you like an application or more information?
