Graduation Ceremonies

  • Congratulations to the following participants who completed the Applied Epidemiology certificate program in December 2005 and May 2006.

  • The Consortium held its third graduation ceremony on May 23, 2006, at the Mid-Cumberland Regional Health Office in Nashville, TN.  The keynote speaker was Paul Halverson, Dr.P.H., Director of Arkansas Department of Health, and Professor & Chairman, Department of Health Policy and Management, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, College of Public Health.

  • The Consortium hosted its second graduation ceremony on Monday, December 19, 2005, at the Mid-Cumberland Regional Health Office in Nashville, TN.  The Keynote Speaker for this event was Dr. Bernard Goldstein, M.D., Dean of the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health.

 

Melinda McDaniel of Cocke County Health Department completed the Applied Epidemiology Certificate in May 2005.  The Consortium hosted a Graduation Ceremony in honor of Ms. McDaniel on Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at the Mid-Cumberland Regional Health Office in Nashville, Tennessee.

    • The Keynote speaker for this event was Dr. Marcia Brand, Director of the Office of Rural Health Policy, HRSA.
  • In addition to the Graduation Ceremony, the Consortium presented two informational workshops:
    • Communicating Health Disparities to the General Public and Policymakers: Lessons Learned from Health Campaigns by Pradeep Sopory, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication, University of Memphis
    • Cultural and Spiritual Competencies for Public Health Workers by Joanne Flowers, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Public Health, East Tennessee State University.

Public Health Grand Rounds

The goal of the Grand Rounds concept is to provide state-of-the-art information on important public health topics to employees of the Tennessee Department of Health.  The Grand Rounds will feature lectures, presentations, and discussions lead by local and national experts on various public health related issues that are relevant to Tennessee. The sessions will also encourage an open dialogue among practitioners, leaders and visiting experts to allow employees to gain knowledge from their colleagues' work experiences.
