Molecular Sciences researcher David Nelson contributed to the analysis of the first tree genome Populus trichocarpa (Western black cottonwood). This work was published in Science (Sept. 15, 2006 issue). Dr. Nelson assembled and named 566 cytochrome P450 genes, approximately 1% of the 45000 genes in this genome.
