2009 UTHSC Student Research Poster Session
November 13, 2009 | 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | 930 Plaza, Lobby (Note: New location)

Poster Requirements

All posters must be set up in their assigned locations by 9:30 a.m. in the 930 Plaza Lobby and must meet the following requirements:

  • Space is limited. Poster (whether single or multipage format) may not exceed a 4 feet x 4 feet (120 X 120 cm) space.
  • Poster display stands will be provided.
  • No materials for making posters will be available at the poster session.
  • Posters will be numbered in the order they are received.
  • Presenters will be expected to remain with their poster from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon. Posters may remain on display in the Lobby until 2:00 p.m. Posters not picked up by 2:00 p.m. will be discarded.
  • Acceptable poster style:
    Single panel poster
      Multiple panel poster
  • Required standard format:
    Introduction
    Background, statement of problem, purpose/objectives)
    Methods
    experimental design, techniques
    Results
    data summary, findings
    Conclusions
    summarize results/findings. Bullets work well to summarize key points, interpretations, implications)
  • The top panel or space of the poster indicates the title, author, and institution(s). The lettering in this section should be at least 1" in height.
  • References' panel optional.
  • Choose a san-serif font like Helvetica, Arial, or Verdana. Avoid serif fonts such as Times New Roman. Once you choose a font, be consistent and use only that font.
  • Use 1.5- or double-spacing to make text easier to read.
  • Avoid large blocks of text
  • Use figures (graphs, charts and illustrations with captions) as much as possible, making sure they are legible and easy to read.
  • Great posters do not have to cost a lot of money! KEEP IT SIMPLE and provide a CLEAR "TAKE HOME" MESSAGE. You can provide details in discussions.

"The University of Tennessee, College of Medicine has its roots in Nashville as the Nashville Medical College. That college as organized in 1876, and in 1879 was acquired by the University of Tennessee as its medical department. The Memphis Hospital Medical College was also found in 1876 but, because of the yellow fever epidemic in Memphis, did not actually hold classes until 1880. In 1909 two Nashville schools merged and were operating as the joint Medical department of the University of Nashville and the University of Tennessee. It moved to Memphis in 1911 and merged with the College of Physicians and Surgeons to become the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine... "
