The responsibility of the
selection of students, for admission to the College of Medicine is
delegated to the Committee on Admissions by the
Executive
Dean of the College of Medicine under the authority of the
Board
of Trustees of the University. The Admissions Committee is charged
with selecting those applicants who are deemed to be the most highly
qualified for the study and practice of medicine. The Admissions Committee
also establishes standards for admission to the College, these standards
to be approved by the College of Medicine, the Administration of The UT
Health Science Center and the University Board of Trustees.
The members of the Committee on
Admissions are broadly based in the academic and medical communities.
Representation includes: members of both clinical and basic medical
science faculty in the College of Medicine, practicing physicians from
across the state and medical students from the junior and senior classes.
Members are appointed to the Committee by the Executive Dean of the
College of Medicine. The Medicine Admissions Office supports this role
through: 1] advising prospective students; 2] providing guided tours on
interview days;
3] managing the processing of application materials; 4] screening
applications as received; 5] notifying applicants of interviews and
6] counseling unsuccessful applicants.
The UTHSC College of
