Didactics

Education is our top priority at the University of Tennessee. As such, we offer multiple educational experiences, including:

• An 18 month rotating, structured curriculum, covering all of the major topics in Internal Medicine (noon lecture series on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays). Click Conferences to see this week's lecture series.
• A Written curriculum for each rotation, including ambulatory care. Click Curriculum to review our various rotations.
• MedStudy Reading Club- a weekly question-based review of internal medicine using the MedStudy and MKSAP formats. Internal Medicine residents are given the MedStudy books are part of their educational stipend and review the entire MedStudy curriculum each year through attendance at this conference. Thus, residents are given the opportunity to completely review MedStudy three times prior to taking the boards just by attending these sessions. • Board review course- a year-end review of internal medicine in preparation for boards.
• Medicine/Pediatrics Journal Club- a once-monthly talk for Med-Ped residents.
• Internal Medicine Journal Club- a once-monthly critical review of recent medical literature moderated by one of our epidemiologists.
• Morning Report- Case-based learning sessions 4 times weekly. Click Morning Report for the current monthly schedule.
• Medicine Grand Rounds- (weekly). Click Grand Rounds for the monthly schedule.
• Clinical Pathology Conference (monthly)
• Ambulatory clinic "small talks"- 15 minute reviews of various outpatient medicine topics, discussed at the beginning of each continuity clinic weekly. Click Small Talks to review examples of these talks.
• Intern School- an annual lecture series at the beginning of each year addressing basic medical topics essential for general medicine wards.
• Night float case-based rounds- daily teaching session for housestaff on night float, discussing cases admitted the previous night.
• In addition, each subspecialty division offers a full array of conferences including journal clubs and case conferences.
