A Message From the Director
One of the biggest obstacles in choosing a career is not having adequate opportunity
for or access to relevant professional experiences or exposures. The University
of Tennessee, Health Science Center, is aware of this concern and has invested
considerable time and attention toward the development of programs to promote
and to nurture students' interest in the health professions and in related
academic disciplines. We recognized that becoming a health care provider
may not be a suitable goal for everyone, but, as a career possibility, every
student who demonstrates an interest should have at least the benefit of
our information, advice and support. It is critical that those who ultimately
pursue health professions do so through informed decision making.
UTHSC actively seeks applications from veterans
and from individuals who are historically underrepresented in science and
in the health care professions: underrepresented minority students,
non-traditional students, students with disabilities, and students who
represent the first in their families to pursue higher education.
Each summer, more than 100 students participate in various enrichment
activities on the campus of the University of Tennessee, Health Science
Center. Hopefully, through exposure to our facilities and to our
community, we will realize an increased interest, in the pursuit of careers within the health professions. In
sharing our resources and through the sponsorship of various programs
and activities, we are guided by one overriding concern: making certain
that we provide the most positive and productive experiences possible.
