MISSION STATEMENT
As the umbrella organization for all student outreach initiatives in the UT College of Medicine, the Council on International & Area Outreach will strengthen student commitment to our local community, promote awareness of our global health care needs and our responsibility to meet those needs, facilitate opportunities for education abroad, and support other student organizations engaged in public service. As such, CIAO will help to set a standard of global responsibility by demonstrating our willingness as future physicians to help others. MEMBERSHIP INFORMATIONThe Council on International and Area Outreach accepts membership applications bi-annually from the M1 and M2 classes. M1 applications are accepted in the fall of their M1 year and consist of a curriculum vitae and a statement of interest. M2 applications are accepted in the spring of their M2 year and have the same requirements. All applications are reviewed by the Council. Selected applicants are interviewed, and then the Council elects two members from each class to serve a two year position. As the M1 representatives, these persons will help the committee stay current on international opportunities with their focus shifting to local opportunities and the Into the Streets project in their second year. It is also one of these M1 representatives who will hold a dual position on MSEC, Medical School Executive Council, in their second year. The individuals elected in their M2 year will serve to help with the endowment and the organization of the Council in their third and fourth years. All persons on the committee participate in the bi-annual distribution of grants to applicants |
