Hadassah, an international women's Zionist organization, founded Israel's first medical school in full partnership with Hebrew University in 1949 - only one year after the state of Israel was established.  Today, the Hadassah Medical Organization comprises the Hadassah-Hebrew University Hospitals at Ein Kerem and Mt. Scopus, both in Jerusalem, with close to 1000 beds and associated outpatient services.  Over 600,000 patients from all over Israel and beyond its borders are treated each year.

The Faculty of Medicine of Hebrew University includes the medical school as well as schools of pharmacy, nursing, occupational therapy, and public health and community medicine.
