THE PROGRAM... Background: This exchange program was initiated in 1987 to offer UT College of Medicine students an opportunity to study in a diverse health and social environment. The program initially supported two UT students to study in Jerusalem for one month and two Hebrew University Faculty of Medicine students to study in Memphis for two months. In 1997 Chancellor Bill Rice expanded the program to support more students and to include the UT Medical Center in Knoxville as an additional site for the Israeli students. Mr. Rice received The Myrtle Leaf Award from the local chapter of Hadassah in 1999 in recognition of his commitment to the program. Who may enroll: Fourth-year UT students may enroll in the exchange program during an elective month and receive full academic credit. UT students may fulfill only elective requirements in the program. Funding: The University provides funds for airfare and a stipend to partially cover expenses while in Israel. Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center provides room, one meal per day, health insurance and uniforms.
